The heavy-duty stormwater workhorse

Every brand has a place, and Grundfos has earned its one: the systems that genuinely work for a living. Basement carparks that flood-test their pumps every storm, strata stormwater pits serving whole buildings, dual duty/standby systems that can't afford a weak link. When the duty is heavy, Grundfos is the brand we most often specify.

Sydney's wetter run of recent years has pushed a lot of stormwater systems past what they were sized for — and that's where build quality shows. We install new Grundfos systems sized to the real catchment, and we repair and service the ones already in the ground, including the duty/standby panels behind them.

Every visit gets the same diagnostics as the rest of our repair work: megger and amp testing, floats run through a full cycle, valves checked — quoted on the day, before we start.

What takes Grundfos systems down

Heavy-duty doesn't mean immortal. These are the faults behind most Grundfos callouts we attend.

🎈

Float switch failure

Even on a heavy-duty unit, the float is still the weak point. In stormwater pits they hang up on cabling or sit fouled against the wall, so the pump cuts in late — or not at all — right when a storm hits.

🍂

Silt and leaf litter

Stormwater carries grit, silt and leaf debris that mats over the intake and wears the impeller and seals. A Grundfos will push through more of it than most — but no pump survives a choked intake forever.

💧

Seal wear and moisture ingress

Worn shaft seals let water track into the motor and the insulation resistance starts falling. It shows up on a megger test long before the pump dies — which is why we test every visit.

⏱️

Short cycling

Groundwater seeping into the pit between storms keeps the pump cycling around the clock. The pump cops the wear, but the pit or the float setup is usually the real problem — we sort both.

Control panel and switchgear faults

Dual-pump Grundfos systems run through duty/standby panels, and the panel fails as often as the pumps. We diagnose and repair pump-side electrical in-house under our Restricted Electrical (Motors) licence.

🏗️

The pump outlasts everything around it

A Grundfos is rarely the weak link — the floats, valves, switchgear and even the pit itself usually give out first. We see systems down with a perfectly healthy pump in them, which is exactly why we test the whole system, not just the unit.

Why call a pump specialist for a Grundfos

A heavy-duty pump deserves better than guesswork. We work on these systems every week — and it shows in the diagnosis.

  • Heavy-duty stormwater is where we most often specify Grundfos — basements, carparks and strata systems under real load
  • Dual duty/standby systems installed, repaired and rebalanced so both pumps share the work
  • Megger and amp-draw testing on every visit — decisions made on numbers, not guesses
  • Pump-side electrical and control panels handled in-house under our Restricted Electrical (Motors) endorsement
  • Floats set to actually swing free — most stormwater callouts we attend trace back to float setup, not the pump
  • Honest sizing advice — if your system was never big enough for the catchment, we'll tell you before the next storm does

The credentials behind the work

Pump work touches licensed plumbing, restricted electrical and confined-space entry — here's what backs every Grundfos job we sign off.

NSW Plumbing Licence 456767C

Sewer Pump Services operates under a current NSW plumbing contractor licence — licensed plumbing and drainage work, on record.

AS/NZS 3500 standards

Plumbing and drainage work is carried out to the AS/NZS 3500 standard family — the benchmark for compliant work across Sydney.

Restricted Electrical Licence — Motors

Issued by NSW Fair Trading under the disconnect/reconnect framework (UEERL0004). We connect the pump and alarm, set up the control panel and fit the overload protection ourselves; your electrician runs the supply.

Confined Space Entry certified

Statement of Attainment from Pinnacle Safety and Training (RTO 40496). Deep pits and confined spaces are part of the trade — most residential pits never need it, but when one does, we're set up for it.

Fully insured

Public liability and workers compensation cover in place across all work, with certificates of currency available on request.

Specialist focus since 1985

A plumbing trade since 1985, pumps-only since 2010. You deal with the same operators from first call through to commissioning.

Grundfos pump FAQs

Straight answers about Grundfos pump installation, repairs and servicing in Sydney.

Do you install new Grundfos pumps?

Yes — Grundfos is our usual recommendation where the duty is heavy: strata stormwater, basement carparks, dual duty/standby systems and pits that work hard through Sydney's wet season. We size to the actual inflow and head, install, and commission the pumps, floats, valves and panel as one job. See our stormwater pump installation page for the full process.

Do you repair Grundfos sewer and stormwater pumps?

Yes — we repair and service Grundfos submersibles across Sydney, single and dual installations, along with the floats, non-return valves and control panels around them. Most repairs are completed in a single visit.

Why does my Grundfos stormwater pump run constantly?

Usually one of three things: groundwater seeping into the pit so there's always water to pump, a non-return valve letting pumped water fall straight back, or a float stuck in the run position. Constant running wears a motor out fast — it's worth a diagnostic visit before it becomes a replacement.

Are Grundfos pumps worth the money?

For heavy duty, in our experience, yes — they're what we lean on when a system genuinely works for a living. For a lightly-used domestic pit, a smaller unit can be the smarter spend. We recommend on duty, not on badge — and we'll tell you which your system actually needs.

Do you work on strata Grundfos systems?

All the time — dual-pump stormwater and sewer systems under apartment buildings are core work for us. We service them on a schedule, report in a format your strata committee can minute, and prioritise active failures. See our strata pump services page.

Can you replace another brand with a Grundfos?

Usually, yes — onto the existing pit and pipework. We check the duty point first: head, flow and what the system actually has to move. If a Grundfos suits it, we'll fit it; if the duty is light and something else is better value, we'll say so.

What other pump brands do you work on?

Alongside Grundfos we install, repair and service Davey, Liberty, DAB, Mono, Flygt, Bianco, Zenit, Ultraflow, Saber and most other major brands sold in Australia.
