A brand we're often called out to
Ultraflow units turn up on a lot of Sydney properties — usually because the system was specced over the counter at a big supplier rather than sized for the building. In our experience that leaves two fingerprints. The first is oversizing: we've walked into a basement running twin 1.5kW Ultraflows against barely three metres of head and minimal inflow — several times more pump than the duty called for. Oversizing isn't a safety margin; it means short cycling, more wear and more power use, not more reliability.
The second is early failure. The callouts we most often get come down to corrosion working into the housing and fasteners, and the motor cable's insulation deteriorating — something a megger test picks up well before the pump dies outright.
None of that means your pump is finished. Plenty of Ultraflow callouts turn out to be a stuck float or a jammed impeller — faults every brand suffers, fixed in one visit. The point is to find out properly: megger reading on the motor and cable, amp draw at the panel, and a check that the pump actually matches the duty it's doing. Then you get a straight answer backed by numbers, not a guess.
If the unit's worth repairing, we repair it. If the readings say it isn't, we'll quote a replacement with a brand we can readily get parts and support for — usually straight onto your existing pit and pipework. Either way, it's the same approach as the rest of our repair work: tested first, priced on the day, before anything starts.

Common to every submersible, and Ultraflow units are no exception — floats stick, snag on cabling or just wear out, and the pump either never starts or never stops. A float swap is a quick, cheap fix when the pump itself still tests healthy.

Seal wear
Worn shaft seals let moisture track toward the motor, and the megger reading starts sliding. Caught early it's manageable; left alone it finishes the motor. It's exactly why we put the megger on every pump, every visit.

Wipes, rag and debris will lock up an impeller on any brand. We pull the pump, clear the blockage and check the impeller for damage — and while it's out of the pit, we test the rest of the unit so you know what you're really dealing with.

Why does my Ultraflow pump keep failing?
We can't say without testing it — but we can tell you what we usually find. Ultraflow units are often specified by big suppliers, and when we're called to one that's failed early, the two faults we most often see are corrosion on the housing and fasteners, and cable insulation breaking down on the megger test. Sometimes it's simply a stuck float or a jammed impeller, which any brand suffers. A diagnostic visit puts numbers on it.
Is my Ultraflow pump worth repairing?
Sometimes, genuinely yes — a failed float or a jammed impeller on a unit that still meggers well is a quick, worthwhile fix. But if the insulation reading is falling or corrosion has set into the housing, repairs tend to buy you months rather than years. We test first, show you the readings, and give you the honest call either way — repair work doesn't pay us more than replacement work, or the other way round.
Can you replace my Ultraflow with another brand on the same pit?
In most cases, yes. The pit, pipework and usually the controls are fine — it's only the pump that needs to change. A Davey or Grundfos sized to your duty will typically drop onto the existing setup with at most a change of fittings, and you end up with a unit we can readily get parts and support for.
What do you check first on a failed Ultraflow?
The megger and the amp clamp, before anything comes apart. The megger reads the motor's insulation resistance — the single best indicator of whether the motor and cable are healthy — and the amp draw tells us how hard the pump is working against its rating. Add a look at the float, the non-return valve and the state of the housing, and we know whether you're up for a small repair or a replacement before you've spent a dollar on parts.
