Yowie Bay

Two undersized cutter pumps swapped for a single DAB grinder

This pit had two undersized 0.75kW cutter pumps working a pressurised main — more than they were ever built to shift — run through a dual-pump controller packed with contactors and switchgear that had become the weak point of the whole system. We simplified the lot: out came both cutter pumps and all the control gear they leaned on, and in went a single DAB FEKA VS grinder sized for the duty, with the old controls and contactors bypassed. Fewer parts to fail, and a pump that can actually move what's put through it.

Sutherland Shire

Overgrown pit brought back to life

This pit had been left to the garden for years — vines over the valve, perished cabling coiled on a broken slab, and a pump well past its best underneath it all. We fitted a new pump, new isolation valve and pipework, ran fresh electrical, and finished it with a gas-tight lid so the smell stays where it belongs.

Illawong

Old above-ground Mono swapped for a submersible Davey

An old Mono pump sitting above a crumbling pit, exposed to the weather and on its last legs. We replaced the pit, swapped the Mono for a submersible Davey, ran new electrical, and sealed it all under a gas-tight lid. The after shot has the manhole open so you can see what's underneath: new pipework, new check valve, new switch on the post — nothing left of the rust collection.

Chiswick

Dual pump system — Ultraflows changed to Daveys

A callout for a dual system with both Ultraflow pumps faulty, crammed into one corner of the pit with their old pipework. We replaced both pumps with Daveys, fitted new floats and fittings, and re-ran the pipework properly. The after photo says it: a clean pit, two new pumps, floats free to do their job.

Burraneer

Pit replacement — and moved to where it should have been

Sometimes the right fix isn't just a new pit, it's a new spot. This old pit sat brimming in the middle of a garden bed — waterlogged, sludged up, and in a location that made every service visit harder than it needed to be. We installed a new pit in a better position, fitted a new pump, ran new electrical and switchgear, and backfilled the old spot — you can see the same brick circle in both photos, first with a pit brimming in it, then with garden going back in.

Ryde

New house, rough pump setup made right

A brand-new house — and a pump pit that looked like the last trade out the gate. The pump itself was sound, but it had been dropped in with the cabling thrown loose, sitting exactly where it could foul the float, and more pump than this duty needed. We tidied the cabling, secured the float so it swings free, and left the system working the way a new home deserves.

Five Dock

Corroded dual-pump controller replaced with a new Kenrahn

The old dual-pump controller had rusted right through — housing, fixings and all — with the alarm and the pump changeover no longer to be trusted. We pulled it out, fitted a new Kenrahn panel sized to the system, wired in the floats, alarm and overload protection, and left it MAN-OFF-AUTO tested and clearly labelled. The pumps alternate again and the alarm does its job.

Cronulla

New apartment garage, cables thrown in loose

A dual pump system under a new apartment building's garage, with the cabling left loose to drift into the floats — the classic fault-in-waiting. We tied everything back clear, checked both pumps and floats, and turned a flood risk into a system the building can rely on.

Sydney

Commercial grease trap pumps, caked solid

Grease trap duty is the hardest work a pump can do. These two came up caked in fat, with the rising mains coating up the same way on the inside. We cleaned and serviced both pumps, scraped the mains back to clear bore, and put it all back together — valves, camlocks and pipework ready for the next round. A grease trap never photographs pretty, but there's a difference between filthy and failing.
